The fact that he won Player of the Year in only his second season on the PBA tour is absolutely ridiculous and amazing. Making that big of an impact though will set the bar of expectations really high and when that can't be met, sometimes it is taxing on the person even to the point of doing something else.
Thankfully, even though he hasn't bowled up to his own expectations, Andrew Anderson is showing no signs of stopping his chase to get back to the top of the PBA Field. Having improved his training regiment and switching bowling ball companies to Motiv Bowling, Andrew has a renewed sense of confidence and he shares his story of progress here on the Ten Pin Life Podcast

He was on the other side of one of the most talked about events in bowling in a long time and because of that, we forgot to talk about what he was able to accomplish before the eruption from Sean Rash.
Matt Russo is the reigning PBA Rookie of the Year, has won multiple collegiate titles in both individual and team events. He's a 6-time member of Team USA and has won multiple gold medals in international competition. Simply put, he's got game, but even better than that is how he handles it.

There's no doubt that expectations are high for Matt because of all that he has accomplished in his short PBA career thus far, and his season almost couldn't have started any better, running all the way from the 4 seed to the title match in the PBA Players Midwest Region final. This is the first time Matt has made an appearance to talk about everything that happened during that show, what his mindset was during the turmoil, and how he's going to use that experience to grow both on and off the lanes.

He's the two time $100,000 man, he's one of the most prominent 'up-and-comers' in the game, and he's THE SHARK. Kris Prather is well on his way to building a hall of fame career on the PBA tour, and he was generous enough to take some time to talk with me about where he's been, and where he's headed.
Kris looks at the game quite differently than many other bowlers do. He dove in to how all of the variables of how bowling and ball motion works and has used that to propel himself to the top of the competitive landscape. He's learned how to funnel his competitive spirit through practicing patience and channeling that fire into focus and attention.
This conversation was so pleasantly insightful into what it has taken for Kris to get where he is today. I truly hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Tom Hess is in the latter stages of his career in bowling, and AJ Johnson is just beginning, so why have them on the same podcast? Bowling is unique in that it is one of the few professional sports that having a traveling roommate is the norm, which Tom and AJ are, so it just seemed natural to have them both on at the same time.
Last season, Tom Hess won BOTH rookie of the year and player of the year on the PBA50 tour. Having been close to retirement, that success reinvigorated his drive to succeed at the highest level. AJ has become a well known entity in the PBA with a lot of pressure to break the seal and catch his first national title. Having been a very successful athlete at McKendree, AJ is poised for a breakout in this, his sixth season on tour.
In this episode, we talk about what it takes to make it at the highest level, how bowlers are truly athletes, and Tom and AJ's mindsets going into the 2022 season.

No sport has evolved more in the last 20 years than bowling. Almost everything besides the length of the lane and the number of pins has changed. Keeping up with the changes has been the biggest challenge to contend with for governing bodies, ball manufacturers, proprietors and everyone else that works in the bowling industry
With all that change, imagine what it would take to create a hall of fame career. The trials, the patience, the versatility and most importantly, maintaining the desire to win. Wes Malott deserves an unquantifiable amount of credit for what he has done for the sport of professional bowling and I am extremely happy that he will be the newest member of the Hall of Fame in February of this year.
In this episode, we talk about what he has seen change in his 20 years on tour, what he has been up to in Indiana with his new pro shop and what he is looking forward to this year out on tour.
I cannot express a level of gratitude high enough to Wes. He was a super fun to talk with all week and I am so grateful to have been even a small part of the week when he learned he would be enshrined into the PBA Hall of Fame. It is an undoubtedly well deserved honor Wes, congratulations.

Imagine sitting down with the likes of Mike Trout, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods or Aaron Rodgers. I know most people wouldn't put EJ Tackett on that same level, but as a huge fan of professional bowling, this is a conversation I thought would never happen.
And the best part about it is how easy it was. EJ is clearly ready to get out on tour again, keep it loose and win. I couldn't believe how easy it was to just talk about bowling and what it takes for him to compete at the highest level here on the PBA Tour.
In this episode, we talk about what it took to get over the hill and win, what he does to keep himself physically and mentally ready, as well as what it's like to be a contemporary with some of the greatest in the world to have ever bowled.

The bowling community is full of wonderful and gracious people, but my guest on this Ten Pin Life podcast might just be the pinnacle of those two adjectives.
This week I am blessed to be joined by Will Mateffy. Will is the pro shop manager at The Bowler's Lounge at Sun Ray Lanes in the Minneapolis area and avid competitive bowler. Will bowled collegiately at Minnesota State - Mankato and qualified for the Intercollegiate Singles Championship in 2016. He also holds three CBA championships, but his bowling accolades only tell a part of the story.
I met Will while I was bowling a few events and we became instant friends. His camaraderie is unmatched and his joy for the sport and helping others in it is infectious. His competitive nature is intense but also very well focused on the task at hand, not at the people around him. I am so blessed to call Will my friend that I had to ask him to share his story.

Yogi Berra once said that baseball is 90% mental and the other half is physical. Well, how does that translate into the world of bowling?
This week I am blessed to be joined by Diana Zavjalova, PWBA superstar, 4 time titles, two time USBC Queens champion and all around good person. I invited Diana onto the podcast following a post she shared on instagram regard her mental health how she has essentially gotten in her own way in seeking success by having a weak mental game.
We had a great conversation to learn more about her history in bowling, her rise to stardom at Webber State and in the PWBA, how she has never had a 'real' job, how the cancelling of the 2020 tour impacted her and what she has done to define the problem in her mental game and what she is doing about it.
In her time at Webber State, Diana was able to work briefly with Dr. Dean, renowned sports psychologist who focuses heavily on team play and individual confidence. In her professional career, Diana has sought out a psychology professional who speaks her native language to ensure that she is able to overcome her hurdles and regain her place at the top of the bowling world.

She's one of the most successful youth bowlers in history, having won the Teen Masters and been runner up in back to back years. She was also the national high average holder for female youth bowlers for five years in a row. Ashly Galante was bound for professional success from the day she picked up a bowling ball.
However, the path to being one of the best in the world has not been an easy one for Ashly. Having been a PWBA member since it's relaunch in 2015, Ashly has yet to claim her first national title. Even though she has a physical game that has propelled her to being a NAIA national champion twice and a member of team USA, the road to a national singles championship has yet to meet it's end.
But that doesn't meant that the time to stop is now. Ashly is continuing her quest by putting in more work into her mental game, acquiring knowledge and skills to give her a greater competitive edge on the lanes. Even going so far as to saying to her self "I don't care" in a way that is effective, not self-defeating.

She's one of the most accomplished bowlers on the international stage. She's won the on the European Bowling Tour. She's been a perennial member of team Russia. She's been the NCAA D1 player of the year. She's a NCAA National Champion and most recently made the cut in the US Open and finished third in Rookie of the Year contention on the PWBA tour.
Maria Bulanova was generous enough with her time to say yes to the first ever Ten Pin Life Podcast.
